Wrapping up the Semester!
For our final exam, we were given an excerpt from Robert Louis Stevenson's short story "Markheim" and asked to write an essay about it using our knowledge of gothic fiction from the 19th century.
The prompt we were given was as follows:
Refer to the passage. How does it fit within the broader patterns of this course? Does it resemble other texts we have read? Does it differ from those texts?
I responded to this question by comparing "Markheim" to two of Stevenson's other works, "The Body Snatcher" and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Below, I have linked the excerpt from "Markheim" we were given to analyze, as well as the Wikipedia entries for all three works, so that you may familiarize yourself with the literature before you read my essay.

THE END.....or is it?
Thank you for going through my Gothic Portfolio. This class was very enjoyable to me because it was extremely different from any other English course I have taken. The class incorporated multimedia and a more creative style of analyzing Gothic literature, teaching me to express the conclusions that I derived from my analysis in a new and unique way, that extensively enhanced my understanding of the works I read.
