What is an honors experience?
An honors experience is an experience that brings a new value to the learning that is achieved from it. They are generally classified under five thematic areas: Community Engagement, Global Studies, Leadership, Research, and Creative Arts. Honors experiences focus on reflection, both during and after the actual experience. The reflection can be achieved through many means, including but not limited to logs, journal entries, TED talks, and interim presentations.
How do you achieve an honors experience at UC?
There are three ways to achieve an honors experience: self-designed, pre-approved, and honors seminars. Self-designed experiences require a proposal process where the experience will be followed through after approved. Then the student must write a reflective essay analyzing many aspects of the experience. Pre-approved experiences and honors seminars do not require the proposal process, but they expose students to the same core ideas underlying the concept of the honors experience. After any honors experience is completed, the experience must be documented in the student's learning portfolio, which in my case, is right here.
If you would like to see my experience documentation, go to the sub-pages underneath this main page. I will keep adding sub-pages as I complete more honors experiences in the next few years.
